I started training with Renea at the end of June 2017 under her 90 Day Transformation program. When I came in, I had little to no experience with free weights, could barely do one pushup with bad form, and struggled to run even half a mile. I had been to the gym on and off throughout the years, but mainly used machines. After working with Renea for those 90 Days, I can confidently say that I am in much better shape than I was when I began. I felt noticeably stronger after the first few weeks, and I could feel my endurance improving not long after. As of today, I can complete around 10 pushups with good form, run a full mile, and my posture has improved significantly. That is not to say that those pushups or mile are easy, but progress is made in consistency, and Renea has been a huge help in getting to where I am today.
The actual space is fairly small, with just three rooms. One has a weight rack, another has cardio equipment (a treadmill, an elliptical, and a stationary bike), and the larger space where the majority of the training will take place has dumbbells and battle ropes. It never felt crowded while I was training, as Renea doesn’t schedule more than three people at the same time (and most of the time it will be you and maybe one other person). I will say that there is not a lot of equipment, though I heard Renea mention adding more. However, since there weren’t a lot of other people at one time, I never had to wait to use any of the equipment while I was training, and Renea was very creative with how she used the equipment for the exercises.
I highly recommend Island Jam Fitness, especially for those who are inexperienced with exercise like I was. Renea was able to take the unfamiliar and intimidating world of fitness, and make it much more approachable. I was able to lose 10 lbs of net weight, lost inches an average of 2 inches all around my body (I’m in need of new clothes now), and feel so much better than I did before.
