Every year, just before the new year, there are millions of people who get caught in the neverending cycle of making plans for a better year and New years resolution to lose weight, eat healthier foods or live a healthier lifestyle has always been on of the most stated promises, that for most people (with good intentions), can not seem to quite fulfill.  reported that just 8 percent of people actually achieve their new years resolutions and there are many reasons so many people fail.

  1. Setting too big of a goal. Most people have so many things in their lives pulling them in different directions that if they do not have a plan of approach towards achieving their goals, is a sure recipe for failure. 
  2. Not having specific and realistic goals. Have a clear purpose for your goal. ” I just want to lose weight” is not a clear goal. Goals should be more specific and realistic. A healthy weight loss is about 1-2 pounds per week, setting a goal to lose 1-2 pounds for the next 3 months would be more ideal and it also gives you an endpoint. 
  3. Mindset. Simply put, making changes in your life, whatever the reason, requires changing the way you think and feel, it calls for a shift in the way you have always approached your goals, especially if the end result was not what you expected. Change your mind, change your life, take the time to transform yourself ( your behavior and your attitude). 
  4. Not making time for your goals. Most people want to achieve their goals but are unwilling to commit the time to the process.  Unfortunately, this also translates to not making the time to commit to themselves. As a personal trainer, the most common response from people enquiring about training, is that they do not have the time to train. It is important for anybody setting goals is to have a plan, and be ready in all aspects to execute that plan. Take the time and be sure of your way ahead.

So many of us are on high alert during the holiday seasons and self-care becomes a thing of yesterday. We become so caught up with taking care of others that we neglect our own selves, but you can still do the things you want for your families and friends without sabotaging your well-being.

Dont blame the holidays, they are merely events. We have the ability to control and chose what we do during these times, we just have to exercise those liberties and apply them to our behaviors. So in the spirit of truth and love and I mean “To Self”, let’s not blame the holidays for our actions.
